The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) released a report this week estimating losses from Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in late September in Taylor County. This effort is led by Christa Court, Ph.D., at the Food and Resource Economics Department. In total, UF/IFAS estimates the total crop damage to be anywhere from $40 million to over $162 million. Specifically for the industry, crop damage estimates range from $2 million to $15 million. These totals do not include estimates for infrastructure damage.
